Best Gala Ever Helps Kids

By  |

Submitted by Dave Lyons, Executive Director, Children’s Foundation Of Muskoka

As I sit to write on this chilly November evening, it’s not only beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, but a whole lot like winter!

The applications coming in to the Children’s Foundation this month certainly reflect that – lots of winter-based activities that will keep a lot of kids healthy, happy and active through the cold months.

I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Dave Lyons and I’m the new Executive Director of the Children’s Foundation of Muskoka. I have been a member of the Board of Directors for the past few years and have recently retired from Trillium Lakelands District School Board where I recently served as the Healthy Active Living Consultant. I’m really excited to be taking on this new position with the CFM and to be working with such a fine and dedicated Board of Directors.

We’ve had a busy fall season as we’ve just completed our biggest fundraiser of the year – our annual gala at the JW Marriott in Minett. This was our best attended gala ever and nearly 250 people joined us for an evening of fabulous food, dancing with the Tobin Spring band and some terrific auctions.

A new twist saw the CFM auction off two trips – one to Napa Valley in California and another to The Fairmont Chateau in Whistler, BC. These were highly successful auctions and will certainly help many kids access the things they need. We hope you can join us next year – same great place, same first weekend in November! Thanks to the folks at the JW Marriott.

Finally, a big thanks to all our Friends of the Foundation that continue to support us in so many meaningful ways. If you’d like to help out or know someone who needs us, please visit our new website, childrenofmuskoka.com.
